There is no shortage of chances to see bellydance performances in this valley, with the large number of belly dancing groups, classes and associations available. But the Meeting of the Tribes is the biggest belly-dancing performance of the year, encompassing “tribes” sprawling from Brigham City to St. George in an extravaganza of more than three hours. Companies participating include Salt Lake City groups Sekmet, Nepenthe, Sahara Dreams, Orientale Dansi, Amani, Shah’s Stars, DecaDance, Alure, Asiyah and Troupe Tarab.

More than 300 dancers will demonstrate a wide array of styles. As a testament to the power of this oriental movement art, special guest Amura (17-plus years dancing with Kismet and other local companies) attributes belly dancing to helping her recover from breast cancer, being out of treatment for two years. “This dance is life giving,” she claims.

Meeting of the Tribes @ Salt Lake Masonic Temple, 650 E. South Temple, 801-363- 2936, April 10, 1–4:30 p.m.
