If you want to see if Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker will finance the creation of the Death Star now that President Barack Obama has put the kibosh on the project, get your one-on-one meeting with the mayor scheduled before Jan. 23. This week, you can also learn more about the local refugee community at a cultural celebration. Next week, don’t miss a Salt Lake City Planning Commission meeting that will discuss street-side amenities and a Liberty Heights mixed-use project, among other items of public interest.

Residents who want to jaw about snowplows, Sugar House street cars, TRAX service and any other issue conceivable under the municipal sun are encouraged to schedule a one-on-one 10-minute meeting with the mayor for Jan. 23. Refugees Among Us

Utah is home to a large, diverse refugee population, uprooted from Africa, the Middle East, South America and elsewhere. Come learn more about Salt Lake City’s refugee community and the groups that ease their transition into life in Utah at this free event, which will feature speakers as well as songs, dancing and food. Salt Lake City Planning Commission
Wednesday, Jan. 23

Salt Lake City planners need your eyes on the blueprints of your city’s future, and at this week’s meeting you can help steer decision-making on a number of topics. The meeting will look at designs for a mixed residential/commercial project in the Liberty Heights neighborhood, a street-side amenities plan for Sugar House and plans to bring subdivision code more in line with Mayor Becker’s Sustainability Initiative.
