When you see someone staring back at the camera, busted and looking like a real piece of work, you rarely think of it as a work of art. McGarren Flack’s exhibit The Lineup features individual portraits (the artist himself is pictured, right) painted just that way: criminals, holding a sign in their hands, who know they have to pay for their crimes. Complete with a booking sheet full of half-true criminal information accompanying each piece, and each one hung at the subject’s actual height, this collection mimics the real deal.

This show features raw material and raw talent at their finest, and viewers may have to do a double-take to see that these pieces are painted and not actual photos. Flack’s work is well worth seeing and sure to be remembered.
