Redistricting is still in full swing, and you can stop by the Salt Lake County Redistricting Commission to learn how the county’s political maps will be redrawn for the next decade. This weekend, head up to Snowbird for a pancake breakfast and a guided hike to help support the Cancer Wellness House, a local nonprofit. Early next week, you won’t want to miss the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah’s open house.

Salt Lake County Redistricting Commission
Thursday, Aug. 4

Redistricting is kind of like a rare solar eclipse—it only happens every 10 years, when leaders use census data to redraw political boundaries. But with redistricting, it gets worse: If you miss it once, your political future could be in the dark for a long time. That’s why you should check out this meeting to learn more about county proposals for redrawing maps of county council seats. Speak up or be gerrymandered.

The Cancer Wellness House works to help cancer victims and their families find solace, support and peace when grappling with illness. This weekend, the house is celebrating life with its Survivors at the Summit event at Snowbird, where participants can enjoy a pancake breakfast, a guided hike, prize giveaways and a tram ride to Hidden Peak. Wednesday, Aug. 10

The civil-liberties watchdogs of the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah are holding an open house this week and are looking for Bill of Rights lovers and individual-freedoms junkies to enjoy complimentary beverages and learn more about the organization. The event is free to the public and will include a few short presentations on the group’s major issues.
