Lost My Faith

Once, I believed that this country was based on “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” I can no longer agree with that statement [“Dangerous Liaisons,” Aug. 6, City Weekly].

At the end of June, Salt Lake sheriffs were dispatched to my (then) home for a domestic-disturbance call. The sheriffs found me unconscious on the floor, bleeding profusely, with a shattered jaw and a broken left ocular cavity. After I was revived, they took only me to jail, denied me treatment, ridiculed me and held me there for a week.

Even after it was verified that my jaw was broken in four different places, I was told that I was just going to have to “bear it” until a judge decided what to do with me. Where is the justice here? What happened to my rights?

Now, I’ve lost my family, my dog, my house, my car—and it’s all legal. I no longer have any faith in the system. It sure isn’t what I put my life on the line to defend when I signed up in the Army.

Beware, all! Big Brother is not only watching you, he will go out of his way to prove that the so-called rights we laymen think we have are nothing but a pipe dream.
