Military thinker Carl von Clausewitz, known for his dictum that war is the continuation of “policy by other means,” believed war was part of normal and pragmatic politics. That notion might not jive with others’ peaceable sensitivities—such as those of the local peace movement hosting a walk commemorating the seventh anniversary of the Iraq invasion this weekend in Logan as well as a Honk & Wave for Peace, focused on pulling troops out of Afghanistan. For those who still want to engage the system, become a foot soldier of democracy by attending a local party caucus and get in on grass-roots party politics.

Logan Peace Rally
Friday, March 19
Seven years and 4,700 U.S. armed services deaths later, Iraq is still a divided nation struggling to put itself back together. It’s also a rallying point for those who stress peace first when it comes to U.S. foreign policy. Join the peace movement for a solemn march in remembrance of the casualties in the Iraq conflict and get more involved in other peace-movement activities.

Honk & Wave for Peace
Saturday, March 20
The local peaceniks want to keep the noise up about the war. It doesn’t take much to get involved—pretty much just showing up at the honk and wave, ready to hold signs for peace. Come get your wave on to recognize the ongoing Afghan conflict and the legacy of the Iraq war.

Salt Lake County Caucus Meetings
Tuesday, March 23
In a show of nonpartisan unity, Democrats and Republicans in Salt Lake County have consolidated their caucus meetings into easy-to-find mass meetings. Now there’s no excuse not to get involved in the process and achieve the dream of becoming a precinct delegate tasked with nominating convention candidates. Because, ultimately, only you can prevent the election of crappy candidates.
Visit SLCountyDems.com or SLCOGOP.com for polling locations.
