Nominate your LocalMotive
On Oct. 21, Local First Utah will hold its annual benefit featuring some 15 food vendors and restaurants, such as Hell’s Backbone Grill, Harmons Grocery Stores and Frida Bistro. It will be held at the Rico Foods Warehouse at 545 W. 700 South and will include food, entertainment, music and a silent auction. Tickets are $50 for a single ticket or $80 per couple.

In addition, Local First will be recognizing “LocalMotives” who have made a significant contribution in their community. A LocalMotive could be a business owner who has helped improve a neighborhood or someone who has brought locally grown food to the community. Or, perhaps an individual who gave their all to a charitable cause. “Perhaps your LocalMotive has fought off a big corporation to maintain their brand. Or maybe they have revitalized a neighborhood by opening a new grocery store. Or offered consumers an alternative in bath and body care,” says Matt Monson, Local First’s grassroots coordinator. “Nominate someone who inspires you with a little bit of rhythm and a lot of soul.” To nominate a LocalMotives, simply write a 500-word description of an individual or company who has done something great for the community. Three individuals will be recognized at the Local First Annual Benefit on Oct. 21. Email nominations to matt@localfirst.org. Tickets for the benefit can be purchased at LocalFirst.org.

Beers for Bikes
Mark Saturday, Oct. 23 on your calendar. That’s when Epic Brewing Company will host an outdoor beer tasting party—Beers for Bikes—as a fund-raiser for the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective. The party is from 1 to 8 p.m. and guests will be able to sample 3-ounce pours of a wide range of Epic ales and lagers with $1 tokens. For more information visit EpicBrewing.com.

Center Café Closed
I was saddened to hear of the closing of Moab’s Center Café, for years one of the shining culinary gems of southern Utah. Good luck to Center Café’s talented team.
