Local First Fundraiser
Celebrate the Bounty—the fifth-annual Local First Utah fundraiser—will take place at the Salt Lake Hardware Building (105 N. 400 West) from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. Celebrate the Bounty is an opportunity for the public to sample food and drink from local restaurants and producers, including Beehive Cheese Co., Chocolot Artisan Confections, Harmons, Liberty Heights Fresh, Meditrina, Pago, Tin Angel Cafe, Frida Bistro, Wild Grape Bistro, the Tequeños Factory, GF Squared, Les Madeleines, Blossom Fine Foods, Cali’s Natural Foods and Red Iguana. The event is also a silent auction, party and social soiree full of locavores, featuring the jazzy musical stylings of the Daniel Day Trio. Tickets are $50 each, or $40 each with the purchase of two or more; all proceeds benefit Local First Utah and its mission to continue to educate the public and government about the importance of buying local. Food Day Farm Bill Forum
In conjunction with National Food Day on Oct. 24, the Salt Lake City Food Policy Task Force has organized a forum exploring the importance of the Federal Farm Bill and how the bill “could help cultivate a more vibrant, sustainable and equitable food system that provides healthy food for all.” The forum will bring together a group of experts who will explore how the Farm Bill impacts the ecological and economic sustainability of our local food system. Panelists will include Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, Utahns Against Hunger Director Gina Cornia, Utah Department of Health Nutrition Coordinator Patrice Isabella, and Utah State University professor Douglas Jackson-Smith. The forum will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Salt Lake City Main Library (210 E. 400 South). The event is free and open to everyone. Visit SLCGov.com/FarmBill for more information.
