As a young boy in Sudan, Gatluak Deng loved to draw. Since coming to the U.S. as a refugee in 1994, his drawings have become vibrant, colorful snapshots of life in Sudan as he remembers it. He uses mixed media to capture many of the daily activities of his family and other villagers. These drawings are a record of a way of life. His art is designed both to share Sudanese culture with his new neighbors and to help those from his own community, especially children who have only lived in the US, to understand their heritage. Reception May 9, 4pm-5:30pm
