In order to determine if the wealthiest 1 percent of the population is unfairly taxed [“Unions Aren’t the Fix,” and “Stats Don’t Add Up,” Letters, Dec. 3, City Weekly], one must look at all the taxes paid and how much of that is paid by the wealthiest 1 percent. Presumably, that amount is 40 percent.
One then must look at all the income made, and how much of that is made by the wealthiest 1 percent. If that amount is less than 40 percent, then the wealthiest 1 percent pays too much in taxes. If that amount is more than 40 percent, then the wealthiest 1 percent pays too little in taxes.
My guess is that the amount is far more than 40 percent.
