Lack of Sensitivity

In reading “Bad Vibrations” [Feb. 25, City Weekly], we are dismayed and irritated at the lack of sensitivity about a struggling neighborhood.

The article has blended words that are not informative, but destructive in nature. The words “bar,” “sex offender, and “battle” in your subtitle do not address the issue, which is basically a noise-ordinance violation. The in-depth discussion of the developers’ criminal history has nothing to do with the noise or survival of the neighborhood. Barking dogs, trains and fire sirens are more an intrusion to the area’s quietude than The Rail Event Center. These noises are typical of any downtown neighborhood.

There is no need to sensationalize. This article does not illuminate the issue; instead, it fuels anti-west-side sentiments. I am confident that the noise issue will be resolved and the “sex offender” and “battle for survival” will be nondescript.

This reaction to your article is not a casual disagreement. We have lived within blocks of the Rail center area for more than 50 years. The Gateway/Rail center and immediate properties are going through gentrification and should continue, despite your unashamed approach.

We suggest the subhead “The whore next door” is not acceptable journalism as the article relates to the noise issue of Bliss Court.
