As a primarily self-taught artist, Hale has developed an organic and instinctive approach to his artwork. Hale paints his subjects while being absorbed into an inaudible but intimate conversation of personal details that he records on canvas. The paintings progress as
he listens.
Hale extracts facets of his subject’s personality and expresses those details through the use of high contrast colors and raw, basic shapes. This method allows him to use simplicity to tell an authentic story without imposing a specific interpretation on the viewer.
