From Jerusalem to Provo to Park City, an exhibit of quilts by Israeli artists has made a unique odyssey. Originally shown at BYU’s Jerusalem Center in 2009, members of Park City’s Temple Har Shalom viewing it in Jerusalem were so impressed that they coordinated with the Jerusalem Center’s curator, Naomi Weinstein, to bring the show to Park City.

The collection includes a number of styles, from typical blanket patchworks to more intricate workings and even elegant handcrafted dress garments.

The 33 works by 10 artists have been exhibited all over the world, including the Netherlands, Israel, France, Hungary and the United Kingdom.

In addition to educating audiences, this show helps fulfill the missions of both the temple (to welcome and instruct people about Jewish life) and the Jerusalem Center (“to provide a venue for artists who have few opportunities for exposure and promote good will between different communities”), explains Jim Kearl, assistant to the president for BYU’s Center for Near East Studies.

Israeli Quilt Show @ Temple Har Shalom, 3700 N. Brookside Court, Park City, 435- 649-2276, Aug. 14-Dec. 10.
