Insurgent Theatre’s Paint the Town

April 7

On their way home after five performances in four days at the Phoenix Fringe Festival, the members of Milwaukee’s Insurgent Theatre could have taken a rest. Instead, they’ve decided to take their current production, Paint the Town, on the road, and let the rest of the country experience their scathing societal critiques.

Written by Insurgent member Rex Winsome, Paint the Town tells the story of (in the company’s own words) “an inspired revolutionary, the perfect family who loves her, and the man who slaughters her family in a wave of brutal terrorism to set her free from the bondage of the establishment.” In other words, perhaps not intended for audiences of delicate sensibilities. Or for those who don’t see art, fundamentally, as a call to change the world. The revolution may not be televised, but we can join our guests from the Midwest as they at least try to put it on a stage.
