Surprise, surprise (not). I read Sen. Orrin Hatch’s lengthy recitation as to why Sonia Sotomayor does not possess the qualifications to become our next Supreme Court justice, so he voted against her.
It is my belief that any nominee selected by our president, with Hatch, would be “dead in the water.” With Hatch, it is personal. When running for office, President Obama said, had he been president at the time, he never would have nominated Clarence Thomas (a fellow African American) to the Supreme Court.
This remark has to be an affront to Hatch. It was he who was at the forefront, vigorously supporting Thomas. He succeeded. This was accomplished by lambasting the character and honesty of Anita Hill.
