Spring’s season of rebirth bounces between days of sunshine and equally abrupt moments of snow and rain—all part of nature’s cleansing cycle. Why not follow nature’s lead by checking out a forum on the proper disposal of electronic waste, and then attend a workshop on harvesting rainwater? Or stand up for disposing of political corruption and join a protest at the Utah Capitol against gerrymandering of political districts.

Green Committee Brown Bag Lunch: E-Waste
Thursday, April 7

Modern electronic conveniences tend to be great for us and terrible for the environment—especially when they’re trashed improperly. At this free event, Andrew Reich of the University of Utah’s IT department will discuss the toxic reality of old cell phones, iPods, and electronic gizmos, and the proper ways of disposing them.

Rain Water Harvesting
Saturday, April 9

Come learn how you can put these rainy spring days to use for your family’s and your garden’s use at this Wasatch Community Gardens workshop. Cost is $10 per person and rainwater barrels can also be purchased for $25. Scholarship options are available for low-income participants.

Rally Against Gerrymandering
Saturday, April 9

Every 10 years, the Legislature gets to slice and dice its voting districts to match population growth in those locations. Historically, it’s been a process of politicians redrawing the boundaries to protect partisan politics at the expense of voters’ fair representation. Join ralliers this weekend on the Utah Capitol steps letting the mapmakers know they expect a fair process—and asking if they will consider the adoption of an independent commission’s recommendations for the new boundaries.
