Day of the Dead @ Frida Bistro
The 12th-annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) community-appreciation party benefiting the Utah Food Bank will be held in La Bodega at the Rico Brand & Frida Bistro Events Warehouse (545 W. 700 South) on Friday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 11 p.m. There are a couple of ways to get in to this always fun bash: donate cash or cans of food at the door to the Utah Food Bank—10 cans or $10 for kids, or 15 cans or $15 for adults. As always, there will be live music, a cash bar, games and activities for kids, a market of Mexican art and other items, valet parking and, of course, tasty Mexican fare. Diwali @ Saffron Valley
Diwali (also called Deepavali) is the five-day Hindu “festival of lights.” Diwali 2013 will be celebrated at Saffron Valley East Indian Cafe (26 E St.) on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 p.m. to midnight. The Saffron Valley Diwali bash will include a grand dinner buffet, cash bar, Bollywood dancing, live DJ and a classical dance performance by Mala and Srilatha Singh. Take a Ride for Charity
For years now, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort (9600 E. Little Cottonwood Canyon, 801-933-2222) has been helping Utah’s hungry via its annual Customer Appreciation Days, when guests can get in on free Aerial Tram rides with a charitable donation. On Nov. 2, 3, 9 and 10, Snowbird visitors who donate one hygiene item (soap, baby diapers and wipes, toothpaste, etc.); a can or box of food such as soup, pasta, cake mix, vegetables, tuna, chili and fruit; or a $5 donation to Wasatch Adaptive Sports will receive a free tram ride at Snowbird. Cans of food and hygiene items will be donated to the Utah Food Bank. “This is a wonderful opportunity to help needy families, and a beautiful time of year to visit Hidden Peak,” says Dave Fields, vice president of resort operations at Snowbird.
