Summer on the Wasatch Front can get pretty hot. This weekend, it’s a chance to cool it down … then heat it up … then maybe cool it down some more … then really heat it up. The Fire, Water & Ice Festival in Kearns—sponsored in part by City Weekly—offers a ridiculous daylong agenda for entertainment. There’s the simple appeal of the six Oquirrh Park Fitness Center pools and splash park for those who need to chill. An even chillier chill is available for those who want to head next door to the Utah Olympic Oval, where ice skating is free all day if you bring your own skates ($2 rental fee applies otherwise).
For the kids, there are rides, games, arts & crafts activities and midway attractions—and, of course, food aplenty.
And, if you happen to feel more like being entertained than entertaining yourself, there are plenty of choices there, as well. Bands take the stage throughout the day, including performances by The Sensations and Two and a Half White Guys. Divers from Sandy’s Mayan Adventure restaurant perform in the late afternoon, and fire-spinning amazement from Incendiary Circus comes on at twilight. If you stick around until the end, you’ll be treated to a fireworks show. And if you want to turn your own fun into fun for someone else in need, come ready to participate in the silent auction to benefit the Makea-Wish Foundation. Now, that’s cool. And hot.
