The interaction of tradition’s sometimes-shaky shingles and love’s billowing awnings are as pertinent in modern-day Utah as in turn-of-the-20th-century Russia. Fiddler on the Roof is all about culture, family and love. Fiddling to keep his family intact, poor milkman Tevye is torn between patriarchal duties of fatherhood and letting his daughters find love on their own. The musical skips to the beat of young romance, but also gives glimpses at Tevye and his wife’s deeply entrenched love.

This multi-Tony Award-winning musical is presented by the family-oriented Hale Center Theatre, which adds its own flare with a whimsical Mardi Gras-esque dream sequence. Also, the set’s two-story house enhances the theater-in-the-round experience. Look forward to the Pearl Awards’ Musician of the Year, fiddler Aaron Ashton, adding his strokes to the show—and performing during intermission. Find a date or you’ll be singing with the cast: “Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match. Find me a find. Catch me a catch.”
