Fall is upon us, and it’s time to reap a bounty of civic engagement. On Saturday, you can enjoy cocktails and more at Splore’s Harvest Moon Party, with proceeds benefiting outdoor recreation activities for low-income Utahns. On Monday, it’s time to see what the Legislature can harvest from its months-long redistricting process when it comes to Utah’s new congressional map. Later, hear 96-year-old Grace Lee Boggs talk about lessons she’s learned from a lifetime of activism.

Harvest Moon Party
Saturday, Oct. 15
Connecting low-income Utahns to the natural world is what Splore’s Active Living Scholarship Program is all about. Help Splore offer rock climbing and skiing adventures to those who might not otherwise have access to such activities by checking out the Harvest Moon Party. The $25 you pay will not only support the program, but also let you enjoy food, music and tasty libations courtesy of Bohemian Brewery and Castle Creek Winery.  Utah Museum of Fine Arts, 410 Campus Center Drive, 801-484-4128, University of Utah, Oct. 15, 5-8 p.m., Splore.org

Legislature Special Session
Monday, Oct. 17
The Legislature is still in the throes of finalizing the maps of Utah’s congressional voting districts. This last day could be a mere formality, or it could be another late-night, no-holds-barred political brawl. A “pizza” map dividing Democratic Salt Lake County with more conservative rural swaths of the state is likely on the menu. But you won’t know how much pizza you’ll get unless you keep tabs on the cooks yourself. Utah Capitol, 350 N. State, House and Senate Chambers, Oct. 17, 9 a.m., Le.Utah.gov

A Conversation with Grace Lee Boggs
Monday, Oct. 17

Chinese-American activist Grace Lee Boggs has been raging against the machine from the ’30s through the Cold War and the Civil Rights era. Now, she’s speaking at the University of Utah on her lifetime of stickin’ it to the man and her current crusade to rebuild urban communities. Gather ’round, young’uns, and learn what kind of passion it takes to fight the good fight for decades. College of Social Work, 395 S. 1500 East, 801-581-8455, University of Utah, Oct. 17, 2-3 p.m., Events.Utah.edu
