Korean sisters Soo-Jin (violin) and Soo-Kyung Hong (cello) have played together since they were children. Soo-Jin also had played together for years with her husband, Danish-born pianist Jens Elvekjaer. In essence, two plus two equaled three, when they came together in 1999 to form Trio Con Brio Copenhagen.
With the cross of cultural backgrounds, a mixed repertoire of classics and newly commissioned pieces, they have challenged, enlightened and brought a dynamic and vibrant voice to chamber-music audiences. Winning top awards in Europe and America, they achieved critical acclaim with their debut CD in 2007, which had one critic remarking, “What stands out from this ensemble is the range of tone and sound. … They command an amazing range of timbres. Melodies sing with an aching sweetness, or seduce with wild eroticism, or haunt with impenetrable mystery.” Their current stop, sponsored by the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City, will include pieces by Haydn, Ravel and Tchaikovsky.
