Dog-lovers unite. This weekend brings the Bank of the West Soldier Hollow Classic back to Heber Valley. This sheepdog championship and festival is among the biggest of its kind and has been called “positively the foremost trial in the world” by one British publication. Sheepdogs from all over the globe compete in several different contests over the four-day event. The main competition of the championship takes place throughout the entire weekend, where dogs herd dozens of wild sheep across huge fields in a timed event. Dogs are narrowed down each day, with finals being held for the top 15 dogs on Monday.
Attractions for spectators also include the High Flyin’ Dock Divin’ Dogs, tasty food from local eateries and kids’ activities. Music will be performed by the Salt Lake Scots throughout the weekend, paying homage to the place where the sport got its start. (Kelli Stitzer)
