Conference to Address Cultural and Religious Pluralism

A conference and discussion will be held at the City Library from September 8-11. The conference will include speakers, panels, a film screening and an Ed al Fitr celebration. With the purpose of inviting dialogue and discussion among the diverse faiths and religious backgrounds in our community, the conference intends to recognize different cultural inputs and opportunities for cooperation between people from diverse backgrounds.

Featured events will be:

Director of the Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs at Boston University will give a keynote speech, entitled “The Challenge of Religious Pluralism and Democratic Citizenship Today.”

Author and professor at the University of Chicago, Dr. Charles M. Payne’s lecture on promoting grassroots movements from the ground up.

An open discussion with young leaders to, sharing their perspectives on how to share power, resources, and accountability in a pluralist society.

A free screening of the documentary “Out Of Cordoba,” which explores issues of religious pluralism. The film screening will also include a discussion with director Jacob Bender.

Eid al Fitr, the celebration marking the end of the Islamic Holiday of Ramadan, will include crafts, a magician and henna tattoo painting.
