Grand Theatre: Always...Patsy Cline

Many performing-arts organizations present a regular recurring production as part of their annual schedules, from Ballet West’s The Nutcracker to Salt Lake Acting Company’s Saturday’s Voyeur. When you’ve found something that works, and audiences keep wanting to share the experience, it’s almost silly to do otherwise.

The Grand Theatre at Salt Lake Community College has opened four previous theater seasons with Always … Patsy Cline, the fictionalized tale of the true friendship between the legendary country music singer and Louise Seeger, the devoted fan who met her idol in 1961 and corresponded with her until Cline’s death in a plane crash in 1963. Erica Hansen (pictured) returns to reprise her title role in the production, with Camille Van Wagoner taking the role of Louise.

Combining text from the letters between Patsy and Louise with classic songs like “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces” and “Sweet Dreams,” Always … Patsy Cline offers the kind of entertainment that makes it easy to understand why folks keep coming back for more. (Scott Renshaw)
