For many this summer, high unemployment rates and soaring gas prices made traveling difficult, if not impossible. For those who were financially able to travel, airport security may have made flying seem like a less-than-ideal option. So wouldn’t it be nice to get a taste of international culture without the full-body scans and obscene prices?
How about if it’s free and only a few short miles away from home? The third-annual International Folk Festival is like a mini global tour, only without the hassle. Festivalgoers will hear the traditional music of Scotland, Spain, Nepal, Hungary, America and Ukraine and see lively dances, all of which will be performed by local folk groups. So if you didn’t get your fill of travel this summer, take a trip down to Sandy and let your mind wander far, far away from Utah. (Lexie Levitt)
