Egyptian Theatre: Barefoot in the Park

For arts lovers, Cedar City in the summer is probably associated most closely with the Utah Shakespeare Festival. But the Bard of Avon isn’t the only playwright celebrated annually in southern Utah; the ninth-annual Neil Simon Festival also attracts theater fans with a repertory season of classics.

Also like Utah Shakespeare, though, it’s an event that northern Utah residents might not get a chance to experience—unless, like Utah Shakespeare, the productions hit the road. This weekend, Park City’s Egyptian Theatre hosts a special stopover from the Neil Simon Festival’s current production of Barefoot in the Park.

The 1963 romantic comedy was Simon’s first smash Broadway hit, perhaps best known to most audiences from the film adaptation starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. Share the misadventures of a pair of New York newlyweds—straight-laced attorney Paul and free-spirited Corie—as a visit from Corie’s mother forces them to figure out whether opposites really do attract love, rather than disaster.
