Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band

This little Indiana trio is worth checking out just to see Breezy Peyton go to town on her washboard with her special washboard-scrapin’ gloves—I hope she’s patented those things before the zydeco community gets a peek. Led by the larger-than-life Reverend Peyton and his magically odd beard, the group is a ribald blend of honky-tonk, blues and rockabilly, with up-with-the-working-man lyrics that Woody Guthrie would be proud of. The band’s latest set, The Wages, is full of down-home charm on songs like “Born Bred Corn Fed” and “In a Holler Over There,” and the Rev’s manic guitar-playing will have you alternately stomping your feet, spinning your partner around the dancefloor or crying the blues.
