The Sklar Brothers

If you believe what the comedian Marc Maron says on his wildly successful podcast WTF, it takes a uniquely brave personality to become a stand-up comedian. It’s just you, all alone, backed up against a brick wall with mic in hand, spouting off in front of an audience. No cutting to commercial, no backup—unless, that is, you happen to be in a comedy team with your brother.

No, not those yo-yos The Smothers Brothers. We’re talking about the twins Randy and Jason, who make up The Sklar Brothers. If you are not familiar with the name, you have likely seen them doing acting walk-ons as unhappily conjoined twins on Grey’s Anatomy, fighting entertainment agents working for Ari on Entourage, a turn on Curb Your Enthusiasm and roles on the cult favorite It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The pair also turned their experience of growing up loving and playing sports in Middle America into a widely popular television show called Cheap Seats on ESPN Classic and now have a regular segment on SportsCenter called “The Bracket.”

As standup comedians, though, the brothers aren’t nearly so hostile with each other as they often play, to hilarious effect, on the small screen. In fact, the duo work their comedic bits in such rapid-fire tandem that they almost seem to borrow cadences from the wide world of hip-hop, even going so far to vocally parallel each other on punch lines, adding emphasis on phrases and key words as if they were throwing root down.
