The last time Mister Heavenly came to town, they had actor Michael Cera in tow, lending a little star power to the proceedings. Now they’re down to the core three members, all of them veterans of popular indie-rock bands; Nick Thorburn hails from Islands and The Unicorns, Ryan Kattner played with Man Man and Joe Plummer did time with Modest Mouse and The Shins. Together, the trio has created a new album, Out of Love, that incorporates shards of grunge and art-rock along with what they dub “Doom Wop,” a nod to ‘50s-era R&B groups like The Moonglows and The Penguins that Mister Heavenly apes a bit in their vocal approach.
