G. Love & Special Sauce, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

G. Love’s blend of blues, R&B, folk and hip-hop has made him a singular artist; he’s a one-man mash-up machine. Along with his band Special Sauce, he’s also become a hero to both Jam-Band Nation and a whole lotta hipsters, and his latest album, Fixin’ to Die, will do nothing to turn those fans off. Produced by the Avett Brothers, the set includes a bunch of country-blues traditional songs along with some strong original tracks. Love will have to deliver an excellent set to make people forget his opener. Trombone Shorty is a New Orleans horn wiz equally adept at trumpet as he is with his namesake instrument. He and his band Orleans Avenue tore it up at Red Butte last summer, besting headliner Allan Toussaint with their energy and soulful, energetic jazz. Expect more of the same at this gig.
