In a rather cruel twist, the STAX Records revue originally slated to open Deer Valley’s Big Stars, Bright Nights concert series was dropped from the summer schedule (although word is we might still get to enjoy Steve Cropper and Co. in the coming months). In its place is a triple-bill of young bands cut from the epic rock cloth of U2 and Coldplay. Headlining is San Fran band Thriving Ivory, a straightforward band who had a hit with “Angels on the Moon.” They’ll be joined by pop-rockers The Alternate Routes and piano-driven Brits A Civil Twilight for a night on the hill to ease you into the July 4 holiday. Deer Valley Amphitheater, 7 p.m., $35 lawn; $65 reserved seating
