Manchester Orchestra

Rarely will you hear an artists personal weaknesses laid quite so bare as they are on Manchester Orchestra’s new album, Simple Math, a collection of songs dissecting band leader Andy Hull’s “marital, physical and mental failures.” That fact that Hull and his bandmates can make those failures so unfailingly entertaining and epic-sounding on songs like “Mighty” and “April Fool” is a testament to their creativity as musicians. Simple Math is a concept album of sorts, a trip through Hull’s brain as he mulls the mistakes of his recent past. And despite (or perhaps because of) the heavy subject matter, it’s a trip well worth taking. In The Venue, 219 S. 600 West, 8 p.m., $16.50 advance/$19 day of show
