Strut Your Mutt

If your particular Buster, Spanky, Einstein or Marley could talk, they’d agree that Strut Your Mutt is the biggest olfactory occasion of a dog’s life, with 1,000-1,500 dog butts and even more human crotches to sniff, plus countless treats and a mile of track to walk (albeit leashed). Unbeknownst to these spoiled canines, it’s all to benefit their furry brothers and sisters, whether they’re Labradors, pugs or schnoodles. The 16th annual fundraiser aids No More Homeless Pets in Utah, a program of Best Friends Animal Society, and other Utah-area animal charities. They strive to increase the number of pet adoptions and spay/neuter surgeries statewide and collaborate with various Utah shelters, rescue groups, veterinarians and others to save animals’ lives. Individuals and groups can raise money by creating a Strut Your Mutt fundraising page on the event’s Website. Then, they strut, in a group walk around Veterans Memorial Park. Individuals are welcome, as are Dog Packs—groups of five or more—often distinguished by uniforms or creative T-shirts and hats, plus doggie outfits for four-legged members. After the strut, check out the booths for information on doggie day cares, veterinarians and other canine concerns, or enter the Loudest Howl or Best Pet/Owner Look-alike contest. National performance acts Course A’Lure and Dazzle Dogzz will demonstrate doggie dancing and tricks, while School of Rock supplies tunes. Event attendees needn’t strut, but are still asked to register. Those who want to contribute but would rather sleep in can register as a cat napper or dog dozer for $25. Online registration ends May 20 at noon; day-of-event registration incurs an additional fee.
