David Bazan

David Bazan has always been an utterly different kind of “alternative” artist. As the man behind Pedro The Lion, Bazan explored theology via myriad angles, touching on subjects his songwriting peers wouldn’t dare approach. After a decade, he found himself at a spiritual crossroads, and with a serious drinking problem, and he ditched the Pedro name in favor of his own as he worked defeating his demons. His last album, 2009’s Curse Your Branches, addressed his personal struggle via a classic set of songs. On his new release, Strange Negotiations, Bazan looks outward at the cultural conflicts both in the United States and beyond through rock & roll songs delivered with a punch rarely heard in his Pedro The Lion days thanks to the presence of drummer Alex Westcoat and bassist Andy Fitts.
