This a cappella six-woman group was created in Washington, D.C., in 1973 at the D.C. Black Repertory Theater Company as a musical tool for the civil rights movement, using incredibly vocal prowess to inspire listeners with songs of social justice. As the group has evolved, they’ve incorporated hip-hop, reggae and jazz into a style rooted in gospel and the blues. Put it all together, and it’s a concert experience unlike any other.
