Ryan Bingham’s biggest taste of the mainstream came through the mouth of Jeff Bridges, who won himself an Oscar for Crazy Heart by singing tunes penned by Bingham. Thankfully, Bingham got an Oscar statue himself for “The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart),” and now has some momentum in appealing to fans who might not have given his hard-bitten, dusty country-folk tunes a chance. Junky Star, Bingham’s 2010 set, is a strong collection produced by T-Bone Burnett that recalls Bob Dylan at times, and the Rolling Stones at others.
