[Editor's Choice: A&E Essentials 12-30-2010] Park City galleries have higher-profile shows during winter—and it’s not because of the Sundance Film Festival, gallery owner Julie Nester says. While Sundancers revel in films, self-promotion and eating, visitors to Figurative Perspectives can relish aesthetic glory. Nester loves figurative art, a form made fresh by the skillful, yet very different, hands of sculptor Tor Archer (his “Crystalline Figure” is pictured) and painter Daniel Ochoa, who together create a cohesive show. Ochoa, painting in oil, deconstructs the figure and adds text in English and Spanish for a nontraditional approach to figurative painting. At 30, his vision and yearly output is prolific, Nester says; more than 12 works will be shown. Archer, working in bronze and copper, is nearly classical in his renderings, Nester says. His elaborate projects focus on woman and nature—the nude form juxtaposed by organic-looking matter like branches.
