Afrobeat music emerged from the violent political landscape of Nigeria in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and the Chicago Afrobeat Project adopted the form and gave it an American twist by adding some rock and jazz elements when the band originally formed in 2002. The ensemble, that ranges between seven and 14 players at a given time, now is a live favorite across the country, delivering instant dance parties with wicked horns and insistent rhythms that are impossible to ignore, even for the most lead-footed. Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra open the show. Monday 11.1 @ The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East, 9 p.m., $8 advance/$10 day of show
