People’s Market

Smaller than the Downtown Farmers Market, the People’s Market offers similar opportunities to shop local with growers, craftspeople, artisans and musicians on Sundays, when the downtown market is closed. Close to downtown and west-side residents, the picturesque International Peace Gardens location is also a pleasant venue for contemplation, and viewing an array of artifacts from local cultures. One thing the People’s Market larger sibling doesn’t have is an actual garden to spur the arboreal imagination. There is something about beautiful fauna to still the mind fractured by the stresses of the working week. If, like me, you are hankering for the Downtown Farmers Market, opening June 8, this venue’s Mother’s Day opening will help sate your appetite for locally produced foodstuffs and items to get your own garden off to a healthy start until then. The People’s Market still has openings for vendors, as well as musical acts. Visit the website for a complete schedule of %u2028special events. (Brian Staker)
