Pioneer Theatre Company: Les Misérables

From London to Broadway, from touring companies to regional productions, and even to 2012’s Oscar-winning film adaptation, it has become more than just a musical. It is a distinctive brand of theatrical grand opera, one in which the soaring songs of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schnberg take Victor Hugo’s epic story of love, redemption and revolution and transform it into something that’s as stirring the 20th time you experience it as it was the first.

Pioneer Theatre Company’s latest production will bring back many who already saw the company’s smash-hit staging in 2007. It also brings back some other familiar faces, including previous cast members Josh Davis and Kelly McCormick, and former PTC Artistic Director Charles Morey returning for directing duties. Let the turntable transport you to the world of 19th-century France, the Paris uprising and the clash between Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert. (Scott Renshaw)
