The Flobots

A war is going on in our backyard, one complete with military rule, exuberant lifestyles and the oppression of the little man. Enter The Flobots, a hip-hop group from Colorado. Their mission? Use their music as a tool for social change. The Flobots were formed by childhood friends and fellow MCs Jonny 5 and Brer Rabbit, and were later joined by Mackenzie Roberts (viola), Jesse Walker (bass) and Kenny Ortiz (drums). With a political agenda wrapped in an alt-rock and rap package, the group only hit it big with the fun, almost silly, tune “Handlebars” when it climbed up the charts in 2008. But the band’s back to its core mission on 2012’s The Circle in the Square. Scenic Byway and Burnell Washburn open. (Simone Downie)
