CWMA Showcase: The Complex

Salt Lake City Weekly is proud to support Utah's thriving music scene with the 2013 City Weekly Music Awards!

10 local showcases will feature our list of the 25 best bands. Come out and show your support for your favorites. You can vote online at and in person and at the showcases. In person votes are more heavily weighted because we want you to come out and hear the music. Come out each night for only $5. Complete list of venues and line-up available at

Spirit Master creates the perfect rock concoction that’s equal parts experimental music weirdo-ness, cryptic pseudo-religious imagery and shit-eatin’-grin persistence; the latter is what helped them land a spot opening for The Flaming Lips in late 2011. Marinade, led by the soulful drummer/frontwoman Talia Keys, is a blues-reggae-jam band comprised of the hardest working hippies in Utah; the band gigs more than just about any other band, and they’ve found a steady following of “meatheads” (my term, not theirs) ready to soak in the marinade. Rounding out this eclectic lineup is a group of stalwart musicians who have been playing together in various projects for more than 10 years (but as Night Sweats for only two). The six-member band makes a brand of broody dance music that features catchy riffs, sweaty synths, ambient soundscapes and smooth baritone vocals. $5
