Soul Asylum

After a period of being out of the saddle, it’s often hard to get back on the horse. In Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner’s case, that final push was a simple phone call. When fellow band member Michael Bland (drummer, backup vocals) suggested the time had come for fresh recordings, it was only a matter of time until the ’90s Grammy-winning grunge band stepped back into the spotlight. Released in 2012, the new album’s title, Delayed Reaction, fits perfectly, as the band spent six years away from songcrafting. The second track on the album, “Into The Light (Breaking Horses),” channels the idea of growing up and becoming part of something. Soul Asylum has stayed true to their alternative-rock roots while accepting and incorporating the more electronic-based stylings fashionable today (flannel out; MacBooks in). Local rockers Color Animal open the show. (Melanie Holbrook) $18 in advance, $23 day of show
