Jeff Mangum, Tall Firs

“hello friends in a flock of finches unfolding from the face of a foam horse on the phone to inform you that jeff is heading out for one last u.s. acoustic tour, giving him the chance to play to all the silver citizens dwelling in citys that he has yet to sing in.” That’s how the ever-zany Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) announced this 2013 tour. To clarify, this is not Mangum’s final tour; his acoustic show will not return to any city where he has previously played, though. Interesting and odd, Mangum has a tenacity for the unexpected. Headlines about the Louisiana-born guitarist, singer and vocalist from recent years use keywords like “surprises,” “pops up” and “resurfaces” to talk about events like his Occupy Wall Street appearance and an NYC gig where he performed a set of groundbreaking indie—his Neutral Milk Hotel collection. Beyond “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea,” “Ghost” or “Naomi,” who can guess what will happen with this mysterious bard in concert? Tall Firs also plays. $30
