The Cave Singers, Pollens

I have always thought of The Cave Singers as a live band—one that’s gritty, raw and captures a heartfelt aesthetic when their songs are played in front of a small audience, like at their many Kilby Court shows in years past. Their fourth release, Naomi (2013), simultaneously captures that emotive spirit and a more polished sound, thanks largely to producer Phil Ek (The Shins, Fleet Foxes, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse). With the addition of bassist Morgan Henderson (formerly of Fleet Foxes), the Seattle folk-rockers decant raspy shout-singing, looping, crunchy guitar riffs and enough stomps and hand claps to make you think you’re in church (with Northwestern IPA instead of wine, though). Pollens open the show. $12
