Emancipator, Little People, Odesza

Portland, Ore.-based producer Douglas Appling, known by his stage name Emancipator, creates a mellow sound that’s best described as a smooth blend of jazz instrumentation, drum beats and haunting keyboard harmonies. After releasing his first album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough (2006), at 19, Emancipator, despite his Virginian roots, was discovered by Japanese producer Nujabes, which gained him enough popularity to be featured during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and interviewed by Rolling Stone Japan. Success aside, Emancipator aims to create a musical experience bonded with nature. Downtempo electronic artist Little People opens the show along with duo Odesza. (Simone Downie) $15
