G. Love & Special Sauce, John Fullbright

In a tweet on Feb. 19, G. Love called himself “The Wizard of Lemonade.” The Philadelphia-based blues/hip-hop mainstay could have been talking about his 2006 release Lemonade, an album that showcased his industry connections with guest spots from Jack Johnson—whose record label G. Love is signed to—Tristan Prettyman, Blackalicious, Ben Harper and more. Or, G. Love could have been talking about his love of cold drinks (remember the classic hit that put him on the map, “Cold Beverage”?). February certainly isn’t the time for lemonade, a drink paired nicely with G. Love’s sunny serenades, but when you’re an artist who has reinvented yourself by returning to your down-home blues roots, as heard with the 2011 release Fixin’ to Die—produced by Scott and Seth Avett—anytime is a good time for lemonade ... or wizardry, for that matter. John Fullbright opens the show.
