Folk Songs for Climate Justice CD Release and Benefit Concert

On July 26, 2011, Tim DeChristopher was sentenced to two years in federal prison, the punishment for being found guilty for false representation—as “Bidder 70” when he threw a Utah oil- and gas-drilling-leases auction off its rails. Of the 26 protesters arrested outside the courthouse that day was musician Mary Danzig, of the award-winning folk duo Otter Creek. Her sentence required her to perform community service; she did so by working on a new compilation Earth Day CD, Folk Songs for Climate Justice, for nonprofit Peaceful Uprising. Danzig picked 14 songwriters—Chris Orrock, Jen Hajj, Marv Hamilton, The Hollands! and more—who donated their time and songs for the cause. Many of these musicians will perform tonight; donations will help launch the CD.
