Playing other musicians’ music—and putting their own spin on it—is nothing new for the Portland Cello Project, whose most recent album, Homage, covered urban composers like Jay-Z and Kanye West (listen to “All of the Lights”). They’ve covered myriad genres, and when the indie cello-minded orchestra hits the road, they bring spotlight musicians with them. On this tour, Alialujah Choir joins the fun, a band composed of Weinland’s Adam Shearer and Alia Farah and Norfolk & Western’s Adam Seltzer. Alialujah Choir formed as a one-off to record “A House, A Home,” a narrative tune commissioned for an album of songs about people buried in Portland’s Lone Fir Cemetery.
