“Stop, hey, what’s that sound?/ Everybody look what’s going down,” is, of course, the catchy line from Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” (recorded by Martin Sexton on his most recent EP, Fall Like Rain), but it’s also the reaction of most music lovers when they see Sexton in concert for the first time. The bard is wont to beat-bop—mimicking wah-wah pedals and all manner of drums—in between wowing crowds with his dynamic vocal range, from velvet bassy-ness to high-flyin’ falsetto. Even with his impressive back catalogue of nine other releases, the stage is where Sexton’s brand of blue-eyed soul and rock is best experienced.
